KBL Round 12: #1 Anyang is defeated by KoGas

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Anyang (14-4) in Inchon on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by ninth ranked KoGas (6-9) 83-78. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Anyang. KoGas made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Dae-Sung Lee (192-1990, college: BYU-Hawaii) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 7 assists and American forward Murphy Holloway (201-1990, college: Ole Miss, agency: Octagon Europe) who added 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Junhyeong Byeon (186-1996) with 25 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. KoGas have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to eighth place. Anyang at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. KoGas are looking forward to face league's second-placed LG Sakers in Changwon in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Anyang will play on the road against Seoul Thunders and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Changwon. Seventh ranked Seoul Knights (8-10) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging second-best LG Sakers (10-8) 100-98 on Saturday evening. The winners were led by the former international guard Sunh-Yung Kim (187-1988) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 assists and Jameel Warney supported him with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Even a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds by Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) did not help to save the game for LG Sakers. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Seoul Thunders. LG Sakers at the other side keep the second position with eight games lost. Seoul Knights' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Seoul to the arena Seoul Thunders.

Goyang managed to escape with a 1-point win 75-74 in the fight for the third place. The best player for the winners was Lee Jung-Hyun who scored 19 points and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Gaige Prim who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Mobis Phoebus' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Goyang moved-up to third place. Loser Mobis Phoebus dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. Goyang will meet at home league's second-placed LG Sakers in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mobis Phoebus will play against Wonju DB and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 12: bottom-ranked KCC Egis was destroyed by KoGas on the opponent's court 92-71. Suwon KT unfortunately lost to Anyang in a home game 82-92. Seoul Thunders recorded a loss to Wonju DB on the road 62-65. Bottom-ranked KCC Egis crushed Suwon KT on its own court 109-88.



KoGas - KCC Egis 92-71

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked KCC Egis' (6-11) road loss to ninth ranked KoGas (6-9) 71-92 on Thursday. KoGas shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when KoGas made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward Murphy Holloway (201-1990, college: Ole Miss, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 8 points, 21 rebounds, 9 assists and 6 blocks. Forward Seung-Min Shin (195-1998) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (201-1995, college: Arizona) who recorded 20 points and 7 rebounds and international center Seung-Hyun Lee (201-1992) added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. KoGas have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to eighth place. KCC Egis lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Very predictable result in Busan where first ranked Anyang (14-4) defeated 8th ranked Suwon KT (6-10) 92-82 on Thursday. Anyang dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Suwon KT's 32. The best player for the winners was American Omari Spellman (207-1997, college: Villanova) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds.
